Stirring Like A Bird

by Lara Wilson

When Tim sees his best friend standing on the doorstep looking a bit nervous, a bit afraid, he feels it stir inside him for the first time in two years.

A flutter in his heart, a warmth in the pit of his stomach.

With a cry of shock and need and love, he flings himself at Kon, wrapping around him, babbling and crying. Kon stiffens for a moment, his hands only light on Tim's back, and then he's clinging, too, crying, too.

"You came back, you came back."

"Yeah, we do that, y'know."

Both boys laugh through their tears and Tim tries not to look a gift horse in the mouth, tries not to be too hopeful.

But...who'll be next?

Because, Kon's right, they do come back.
