She finds him standing over a dead body--a mark, a contract, someone he was paid to kill-- and her heart breaks into a thousand shards.
He turns slowly, warily eyeing her, relaxing only when he sees the woman and not the warrior.

Beneath the mask he smiles sadly as her voice edges into the cry of an angry bird, and he raises his sword. "You should never have believed that, either."
